Who makes these boards and where can a suggestion for hardware mods be posted or presented?  I’d like to see an option of having the 3 4-pin headers be vertical insertions rather than from the side.

Hi.
I’m not sure who makes those boards.
Probably some Chinese company. So, unfortunately, I’m not sure where you can give suggestions for newer improved versions.

Sara

Not that it really matters, but I like to design and print my cases for the CYD or CYD2USB to be nice and tight fitting (freecad, by the way).  This requires the 4 pin headers to be vertical so that the wiring from those headers doesn’t come off the board sideways and interfere with the tight fit.  Sure, the case can be made a bit bigger to accommodate the wiring but then the USB and SD card ports are somewhat deeper and a bit more difficult to access.  Neither is a really big deal, just my preference.  I was able to source the 4 pin, 1.25mm surface mount headers and replace 2 of the three for my use.  They are small and a bit difficult to replace but worth the time for me.  Also, the female connectors housings that come with the CYD have a slightly different housing config (keyways) and either need to be trimmed or de-pinned and then insert into a matching male housing, all easily available and either way works.  All the pins, male and female, are all the same size and fit in different 1.25mm housings.  Just my $0.02 that’ll probably cost you $20 to consider.

Hi.
Thanks for sharing those details.
Unfortunately, many times, the manufacturers don’t have those things in mind when designing those boards.

Sara
