Alexa connection to ESP32

I have tried to connect three different ESP32 boards to Alexa, using the code in your tutorial for switching lights.

The boards connect to my WiFi but the Alexa Dot 3 and my phone app, cannot see the boards.

I have checked my router and found that the ESP32 is on 2.4GHz and the Echo Dot is on 5GHz.

Could this be the reason that the Echo is not see any of the ESP32 boards that I have tried?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Graham, I was finally able to test the Alexa project once again today:

  • Alexa (Echo) with ESP32 and ESP8266 Voice Controlled Relay

It’s been working perfectly with my ESP32 and Echo Dot 2nd Generation ( I don’t have a 3rd gen, so I can’t test it right now).

Can you try connecting your Echo Dot to 2.4GHz? It depends on how your router operates, but I think they must be connected to the exact same network

Hi Rui,
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I can’t switch the Echo to 2.4GHz. I have trawled the net to find out how to do this and I think I would have to set up two different SSIDs, which would mean changing many devices in my house.
I have tried to find the ESP32 from the Alexa app on my phone, which is on  2.4 GHz. Still no joy.
I have tried pinging the board from my PC. It quite often times out. Not sure if that would prevent Alexa finding it.

I’m not sure, at the moment I can’t replicate your scenario.I don’t know if your router with that setup creates two distinct networks that makes it impossible to find with Alexa your ESP emulated devices…
