Hi Peter, I don’t have any tutorials on that subject. I’ve been using the nrfConnect App for the smartphone to connect to devices, find their services and characteristics… Have you tired the app? It should have everything that you need…
Have been trying with both a BLE sniffer from Nordic Semi / Adafruit (the people that produce nrfConnect) and NRfConnect but cannot get the info I’m after. The BLE Sniffer is from Adafruit which has an out of date tutorial for the product. (Adafruit 2269).
Trying to find the codes used by Skyq Box (Sat Box) to control it. (The remote is billed as a Bluetooth)
Hi Peter, can you move the remove control from the Skyq box to a different room or turn off the box?
For instance, if the remote is connected to the box, it won’t be advertised and available as a BLE device, so you won’t be able to find it or sniff any of the codes…
yes – it is paired have to set it up on the sat box first. – I though that the sniffer would read all Bluetooth packets that was why i was trying to use wire shark as it will allow you to filter packets, which would allow me to see the codes being used. even if I was only reading the packets from the remote. range is very short 2 or 3 meters at most.
I haven’t used WireShark for BLE sniffing, so to be honest I don’t know it’s features and how to use it…
As you probably already know, the Adafruit BLE sniffer only works with BLE, if the remote uses Bluetooth classic it will not work.
Adafruit also has a great tutorial on reverse engineering a BLE light bulb: https://learn.adafruit.com/reverse-engineering-a-bluetooth-low-energy-light-bulb/overview
