Does anyone have experience designing a custom PCB and getting boards made, Can they recommend tools to design schematic and PCB  GERBER set and a company to turn that into real boards ?  I see several companies in US and China offering services – so interested to hear of someones actual experience and recommendations.

Hello Hamish,

I hope you are doing well, unfortunately I don’t have any experience with those services… However, I would like to ask you how complex is your design? Do you think it’s hard to design and implement?

I’ve heard many many using some freelancers on Fiverr to get custom PCBs with great results for more “basic” projects.

Regards,
Rui

Rui,
Thank you, that’s a good idea. I will look at that as it is not very complex.  <20 components

If it’s fairly easy, you can definitely try to find a freelancer on Fiverr and I think they can definitely do it. Just try to search a freelance with previous examples and good ratings! I hope that works for you!

Hi Rui,
I did as you suggested and used Fiverr to find a freelancer to design the schematic and gerbers for me, ordered boards from PCBWAY and they were delivered yesterday – and they work as expected !   All happy with that, thank you for the suggestion.
