Facial Recognition not working

Hi, … I’m stuck in the getting started section of the ESP32-CAM eBook.  My setup is able to capture stills, and do streaming, but when the 2 facial recognition buttons are enable, and a photo taken, there is no yellow box like the book shows.  I put in code to verify that there is PSRAM, and there is.  Any idea what might be the issue?  (I’m using the FDTA adapter and a card that states ESP32-CAM on it (and thus I used the AI-thinker platform to do the code).  Thanks – JoeM

Hi.
The face recognition button should detect a face when there is video streaming.
What happens exactly when you try face recognition?
Does your ESP32-CAM have a good wi-fi connection? Sometimes, if it is not relatively close to your router, it won’t be able to perform face recognition and detection.

Sara

I didn’t know it had to be streaming.  So when I just now tried streaming, it crashed, and your eBook says to back-rev to 1.0.4 board rev… when I did that, it now works 🙂  …. any idea as to why the later versions (e.g. 1.0.6 is what I had) don’t work?  (not very settling knowing that it won’t work with the latest software).  You can close this.

Hi.
I don’t know why it doesn’t work with the latest software.
I need to search a bit more.
I’ll mark this issue as resolved. If you need further help, you just need to open a new question in our forum.

Sara

Hello. I have the same problem too. I start streaming, but does not do facial recognition, and after a short time the image freezes. I tried to go 3-4m from the router, but the problem remains. Maybe I also have a recent version of the software that doesn’t work. Do I need to go back to an older version? Thank you.

Hi.
I’m not sure.
But, I recommend trying the older version and checking if that solves the issue.

Sara
