Working through smart home with raspberry pi esp32 and esp8266 and as a result I am getting a lot of old garbage that I would like to cleanup. Is their a simple way to remove all ths old stuff that is no longer needed.

What garbage are you referring to? What old stuff are you referring to?
Did you start the eBook with a fresh OS install?

Started with a fresh OS install. I am talking about after completing 1 exercixe in the book then movingon to the next there are still all the old nodes tabs groups etc. I would like to save old exercise which I thinkI cando with export but would like to start thenew exercise with a clen work area. I can create anew flow but the grops and tabs are retained. Seems unusuall tome that I cant just select New File or whatver and forget about all that has gone before.

Hi.
As you mentioned, you can create a new flow for the new exercise, or you can download the current flow as a JSON file and delete it to start with everything new.
Alternatively, you can also edit old dashboard tabs so they don’t appear on the new dashboard.
On the top right corner, click on the arrow and select dashboard. A list of your tabs and groups will show up. When you hover your mouse over them, there are three buttons for tabs and two for groups. If you click on Edit, there’s an option to make it invisible on the navigation menu.
