MQTT vs Hardware Serial

Please confirm, from hardware standpoint, that the MQTT data stream over WIFI is completely independent of the Rx and Tx pins. In my network of 18 display/control processors, I’ll have 5 bare bones Arduinos that won’t have WIFI capability. They need to communicate with one of the network ESP8266s via serial in order to pass their data into the larger MQTT network.

Hi.
Yes, wi-fi is independent of hardware serial.
You can get data from your arduinos via serial and use MQTT at the same time.
