Hi!!
Admins i want to take some advice on what to chose a discipline as i am about to admitted to university. I have serious interest in programming , automation , robotics related hobbies.
I have two options to chose from and that are either electrical engineering or mechatronics engineering. My father is a civil engineer .I also want to serve his company by using skills that i will get related to my passion. Also, i have good taste for research related to above mentioned hobbies. So please guide me…….. I WILL BE VERY THANKFUL FOR THE GUIDANCE!

Hi Musab.

When you study engineering you learn a broad number of subjects that then can be applied to many applications.
Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics engineering are very similar branches.

Many times it doesn’t matter much what Engineer branch you’ll study because you’ll learn the same fundamentals in both (specially in this case of Electrical and Mechatronics), at least that’s how it works here (Portugal) and most places.

For example, I’ve studied Bioengineering and now I’m doing IoT related projects because I’ve also learn electronics, programming, etc (although in a much simplified way). Many Rui’s friends studied electrical engineering and they are now software engineers.

If you’re not sure which one to choose, you should take a look at their curriculum and see which one contains the subjects you like most and you’ll be better at. Also, you may also want to talk with someone that has taken those courses and see what they thought about it.

I hope this helps and good luck with your studies.

Regards,
Sara
