yesterday I ask a question on this forum. I stated that I was not finding the hallread(). after reading some of the other posts on the forum I saw people were having problems with board manager 3.0. I thought I would downgrade and see if that fixes my problem. IT DID! So for anyone having issues with code that should work but does not, try version 2.x,
