I am working through the Home Automation book which is excellent. Installed Node-Red Dashboard but it is deprecated but working fine so far. Do you recommend an update for this package?

I have read the book Smart Home with Raspberry Pi & ESP32, a good book.
My problem is that Node-RED Dashboard is no longer maintained? (Page 73)
I have installed @flowfuse/node-red-dashboard (Dashboard 2).
There, ip:1880/ui no longer works — it has to be ip:1880/dashboard instead.
Greetings,
Luc

Hello, we are aware of this issue, but even though the original node-red-dashboard is deprecated it was still updated 2 months ago ( Aug 7, 2025). It still works fully and I continue to recommend using it for now.

However, we will be exploring other alternatives like flowfuse/node-red-dashboard or node-red-contrib-uibuilder.

Regards,
Rui

I think continuing to use a deprecated piece of software with acknowledged security issues is perhaps not the best advice. I’d much prefer guidance on using the flowfuse dashboard2! It seems to work pretty well and even has its own ebook for guidance. The main problem I’ve seen is that there is no Color Picker and so the example doesn’t work! I’m planning to try the secure access example.
Real help would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much for the responses.  I discovered that the KASA HS200 single-pole light switches cannot connect to my node-red flows on the Pi5. It works great on 3-way switches and smart plugs. Everything works great on the TP-Link phone app. I am sure Rui and Sara will tell us the best path forward. Until then I am going to keep learning and practicing with node-red.

Yes, I totally agree James and as I said I’ll be exploring other alternatives to update the eBook.
Thank you for the feedback!
