Platformio, ESP32, Ubuntu on Jetson Nano ARM64 machine

This isn’t really a question, beyond, is anyone else here using a

  • Jetson Nano 4 (and ARM64 machine) with
  • Ubuntu 18 OS and who
  • prefers using Platformio and
  • ESP32 boards? 🙂

I’m running into a lot of roadblocks. I got this Jetson board because for $100 it is a very powerful, capable single-board computer that can let you explore AI.  I keep it on my desk and thought it would could serve double duty as my hobby computer when I play around with ESP32 cam and arduino sketches. The video (if you buy a Raspberry Pi camera) is very good quality. It’s a different type of electronics fidgeting, that is more Python code based.
Learning about Ubuntu and Python is fun, but I don’t think it’s a stable platform to move on with ESP32 cam projects. Arduino IDE simply does not allow ESP32 board to be recognized (something about the OS not running ESP32 compatible software)

Hi Donald.
We have a Jetson Nano board, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to unbox and try it yet. I think it’s been more than six months 🙁
Thanks for sharing your opinion about that.
Regards,
Sar

Hi Sara,
Donald is correct. I would love to see you guys do a book on this. I have a new Orin Nano and the learning curve is very steep for non-Linux users. However, my students are using them a lot so I would love to have a e-book for them instead of relying on Youtube..
Donald, check out the AI for beginners videos by Paul McWhorter on youtube. He has a 60 session series on NANO and just released a new series last month on “AI on the edge”. I have been following his NANO series. He shows how to use VS code, Python, Raspberry Pi camera that can follow objects, Linux commands, breadboarding with the GPIO, and much more. It has been really helpful.

FYI: I just figured out how to build a Windows Desktop APP in C# and port it to the NANO or any other Platform all inside Visual Studio 2022.
Hope this helps

Donald, I just saw that your post was 5 years ago but Arduino IDE 2.0 does support ESP32. RNC has a lot of tutorials on this. I use it and VS Code all the time.
