Dear Rui,
Book: Home automation – page 102.
I can select the Port. It’s disabled.
I use the NodeMCU Amica.
It has a micro usb connection.
The error: cannot access /dev/ttyUSB0, but I can select another port.
It also has 2 other errors: espcomm_open failed and espcomm_upload_mem failed.
When I use the Adafruit feather Huzzah, I can upload, because the ttyUSB0 port is then ok.
Can you please give me advise what to do, as I cannot find the answer on the internet or this forum.
Thank you in advance.
Yvonne

I mean that I can’t select a com port as the port selection in the menu is disabled.
When I try to upload the code I get an error message as mentioned in my first message.

my laptop: linux mint operating system.

Could it be that there is a conflict with FTDI drivers?

I used the Adafruit Huzzah8266. I uploaded the code with the FTDI friend by Adafruit. This gives no problems. When I attach the FTDI cable to the laptop and I open Arduino, I can upload code to the Huzzah without any problems. It uses ttyUSB0. The moment I attach the NodeMCU Amica to the laptop (after I deleted the FTDI cable), the Port selection in the menu is grayed out (diasbled). Compiling the code: no problem, but uploading is not possible.

I hope you know what I can do.

Thank you.

I found, after hours of frustration, the answer!
I bought a new micro usb cable and my problems are solved.
I wish everything in life is that easy.

Hello Yvonne! I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I know these errors are quite frustrating, but it looks like your previous cable didn’t have data wires (that’s why it didn’t work/the com port appeared in your tools menu).
I’ll mark this thread as “resolved”, if you need further assistance feel free to post new questions. Regards,
Rui
