Does anyone know if any of the Raspberry Pi alternatives that are out there will work with the projects?  Specifically, I have the Smart Home course that requires the RPi.  Thanks.

Hi.
What Raspberry Pi alternatives are you referring to?
Do you mean other boards like the banana Pi, for example?
Or are you asking which Raspberry Pi boards are compatible?
Regards,
Sara

Sara,
Yes, looking for other boards like Le Potato, or Banana Pi Zero.

Hi.

Throughout the eBook we use Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit). The Raspberry Pi zero can run that OS, so that might be the best alternative.
Here’s a list of the Raspberry Pi boards compatible with the OS: https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspberry-pi-os-64-bit/

In theory, any board that can run a Linux-base 64-bit operating system is compatible with the projects in the eBook. (We need 64-bit to run InfluxDB).

However, depending on the operating system and Linux distribution there might be some differences when installing the software we’ll use. Node-RED, Mosquitto and InfluxDB provide installation instructions for Linux operating systems, but I haven’t tried those instructions on other systems than the Raspberry Pi OS and a Linux VM machine on Digital Ocean.

I would say that if you’re familiar with any other board that runs Linux, you should be fine. If you’re not familiar with those alternative boards, please take into account that we don’t have the resources to help with those.

With a quick search, I found that Le Potato is compatible with Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit.So, as long as you can install the OS, you should be fine.

If you can’t get a board, you can run all the projects on the cloud (you’ll need hosting for that). We provide instructions for digital ocean.

I hope this helps.
Regards,
Sara
