Ref :  Complete project details at https://RandomNerdTutorials.com/esp32-cam-video-streaming-web-server-camera-home-assistant/
Can anyone cast some light on the problem I am getting uploading the sketch to my ESP32 Cam? I have tried all the options since it is not clear what precise CAM it is.

The board I have selected in the ArduinoIDE is the AI Thinker CAM.

I also installed esptools via the command line.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Mark.
How are you powering your ESP32-CAM board?
How are you connecting it to your computer?
Does it print a lot of dots on the debugging window before throwing out the error?
Regards,
Sara

I was using a short USB cable to my NUC , a usb to serial board , then some header leads onto the ESP 32 Cams.
I shelved the project and a new package of boards arrived the otherday with a USB to serial “shield” style interface board. They both just worked straight out of the tin.
Unresolved so far.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Sara,
My gut feel is that there is some power sag / brownout / type issue. I tried two cams and a few USB cables as well as another serial board.  At some point you need to cut your losses. The sunk cost fallacy isnt really an issue here where the dollar cost is so hilariously inexpensive. If you had sent an ESP 32 CAM back in time to me in the 80s and asked me to suggest the cost of the component I would be out by a factor of a cuppla hundred.  It is time that is the precious resource.
Cheers
