This Unit calls for a couple of capacitors, a 100uF electrolytic capacitor and a 100nF ceramic capacitor to be used as part of a voltage regulator along with a Low-dropout regulator (MCP1700-3320E). Are these necessary capacitor values or suggested capacitor values or does it matter? That is could a 1000uF electrolytic cap or a 300nF ceramic cap work just as well? There was no explaination why those specific values were chosen.

Hello, I’ve tested those values capacitor values used in that project and they provided a reliable circuit to would smooth out all voltage peaks of the battery. You can use those values that you’ve suggested and they should work fine too.

(I’ve also used those values, because they are very common and a lot of people have them)

I don’t think you would need a 1000uF electrolytic capacitor, that might be overkill. I would probably use a lower value (I’ve used 47uF too and it was enough).

I hope that helps. Regards,
Rui
