Uploading to ESP32-CAM via FTDI

I am having a tough time uploading the CameraWebServer sketch to my ESP32-CAM via 2 different FTDI boards on 2 different computers – one Windows and one Mac.

Every time I get this:

esptool.py v2.6
Serial port COM3
Connecting........_____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____
A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to ESP32: Timed out waiting for packet header

I have used different jumper wires too.

I only have the one USB cable though I ‘think’ that must be OK or I wouldn’t even have gotten to the point where the FTDI shows up as a device on my Windows PC.

Any other suggestions?

Dear Stuart Hunter,
Press the RST button when these …….._____….._____….._____….._____….._____….._____….._____lines appears. I hope it will solve the problem.

Hi Stuart.
Yes, you just need to press the RST button when you see the dots.
See bullet 1 in our troubleshooting guide: https://randomnerdtutorials.com/esp32-cam-troubleshooting-guide/
